17 Halloween Safety Tips
"Trick-or-Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!" Kids think that Halloween is all about candies and costumes, but we all know that safety is a very important issue this time of year. Here are our Top 17 Halloween Safety Tips to share with your kids.

  • Only go to houses with their porch lights on.

  • Always carry a flashlight with new batteries in it!

  • Never go anywhere with a stranger.

  • Stay with your friends or always within view of a parent or trusted adult.

  • Never go inside someone’s house while you’re trick or treating.

  • Don’t wear masks that are hard to see out of. To be safe, wear face paint instead.

  • Be sure you can walk easily in your costume, because you don’t want to fall later.

  • Walk facing oncoming traffic when there is no sidewalk.

  • Let your parents inspect the candy before you eat any of it.

  • Stay within the area that you've agreed on with your parents.

  • Stay in lighted areas with street lights. Avoid alleyways or dark parking lots.

  • Carry a cell phone or money in your shoe for a phone call, just in case.

  • Have a certain time to call your parents if you’re out with friends.

  • Wear a watch.

  • Do not pet and try to stay away from animals you don’t know

  • Talk over the importance of "stop-drop-roll" in case that cape runs across a candle

  • Tip for younger kids: put a little ID tag in the inside of their costume and tell them where it is. This can be a great asset if they get lost or confused.
