What is it?
Answers.com, makers of the very usefull program called GuruNet, decided that they wanted to offer their services for free. How nice of them! So they retired GuruNet, set up a free web site at answers.com, and even created a free downloadable tool called
1-Click Answers that does the same wonderful job that GuruNet once did for thirty dollars a year. I’ll pick free over $30 any day!
Answers.com is setup almost the same as GuruNet. It works something like this - every time I need help with a word or phrase in a document or even online I just hold the alt-key and click the word with my mouse... within seconds I’ve got more information about it than I could ever use!
They’ll translate words for you into other languages, pronounce them for you, and tell you where to find the best web sites on the topic. They’ll offer up cool images, direct you to blogs, or find current news articles for you.How to make curriculum with it...
Or maybe you’re feeling burnt out today and don’t know where to get started in your homeschooling curriculum. Click on their “Today” icon and answers.com delivers tons of ideas for fun and interesting curriculum, from “Today’s Word” to top news stories and “Today in History.”
But There’s More…
Now that you’ve had fun exploring the web site, it’s time to download the free little tool that no homeschooler should be without… 1-Click Answers. This is the always-available teacher, parent, and homeschool tutor, right where you need them… On your computer! How do they start? What do they look like? Well, what else is a homeschool mom to do?
I sat my son down and typed h-u-r-r-i-c-a-n-e on the computer and alt+click and this is what I got...
Next question… “Will a hurricane hit us?” I just scrolled down to Location and...
Now, he didn’t ask me, “How do you say hurricane in Italian,” but if he did, I’d know that the answer is… uragano.
