As a homeschool parent, I’m always looking for the next resource that’s reasonably inexpensive and worth it. I spend my time hoping for the best (i.e., free, educational, and something that will hold my child’s attention), but what I usually end up finding are sites that are good enough (not too expensive and somewhat educational). Well, this month I stumbled onto Disney’s Children’s website - Disney.go.com
With the Disney name and financial backing behind the curtains of this site, it’s a resource every homeschooler and parent will love! After playing on this site for a month I’ve still only seen about half of it! My son calls it his “new game.”
“My new Game”
Playhouse Disney offers educational games, activities, and music themed that is all themed with your child’s favorite Disney characters. There are thirteen different shows to choose from, including Stanley, Rolie Polie Olie, and of course Mickey Mouse! These lovable characters teach everything from number recognition to basic addition and subtraction. This is the spot where my family has spent the most time and it’s FREE!
Fun for Mom Too!
Family Fun is the Disney family magazine online headquarters and it’s full of great ideas, practical advice, and fun stuff to do. This is every crafty homeschoolers favorite online stop. They do an unbelievable holiday craft and activities site and we’ve named them the best Halloween and Christmas site available in 2004! No matter the craft this is the site I go to first. Once again Disney has put countless funds into this site and it’s available free to users so take advantage of it…I do!
Too much to see, too little time...
I could write a small book about all the fun places to visit and games to play, but it’s late and I have my own curriculum and activities to organize for tomorrow’s homeschool day. Do yourself a favor and set some time aside to visit this site or just load up the playhouse Disney section and let your child go. They also offer a membership to those who feel like they want more, but honestly I got so wrapped up in the free sections of this site that I haven’t even gotten around to signing up for the for the membership that costs $29.95 a year.
