"Trick-or-Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!" Kids think that Halloween is all about candies and costumes, but we all know that safety is a very important issue this time of year...




Top 17 Halloween Safety Tips


  • 1. Only go to houses with their porch lights on.

  • 2. Always carry a flashlight with new batteries in it!

  • 3. Never go anywhere with a stranger.

  • 4. Stay with your friends or always within view of a parent or trusted adult.

  • 5. Never go inside someone’s house while you’re trick or treating or anytime without your parent's permission.

  • 6. Don’t wear masks that are hard to see out of, instead wear face paint.

  • 7 Be sure you can walk easily in your costume, because you don’t want to fall later. Practice before you leave the house.

  • 8. Walk facing oncoming traffic when there is no sidewalk and always have your flash light on so cars know you're there.

  • 9. Let your parents inspect the candy before you eat any of it.

  • 10. Spend some time planning your trick Halloween route and then stay within the area that you've agreed on with your parents.

  • 11. Stay in lighted areas with street lights. Avoid alleyways or dark parking lots.

  • 12. Carry a cell phone or money in your shoe for a phone call, just in case.

  • 13. Have a certain time to call your parents if you’re out with friends.

  • 14. Wear a watch while trick or treating.

  • 15. Do not pet any animals you don’t know...accidents happen.

  • 16. Talk over the importance of "stop-drop-roll" in case that cape runs across a candle!

  • 17. Tip for younger kids:Parents, put a little ID tag in the inside of their costume and tell them where it is. This can be a great asset if they get lost or confused.
